Coil wire question

I have a coil for my detector that the outside coating of the coil wire has cracked/deteriorated due to age, is there anyway to fix it other than electrical tape. It doesn't effect the performance but I don't like the looks of the cracks in it. Thanks

You could put heat shrink tubing on it, if it will clear the diameter of the coil connector.

I've put silcone on the cracks and then wrapped the whole cable with black electrical tape.

Bayard's suggestion is good...

If it doesn't clear the coil connector you could possibly wrap self amalgamating tape up the wire, make sure you stretch it and overlap it as you work your way along.
