My detecting is in Arizona, USA, in sites ranging from lower elevation desert ghost towns and home sites to higher elevation mining and logging camps in Ponderosa Pine forests. I learn best by reading something concise and detailed or, for my current conundrum, by hearing examples.
I am trying to decide which targets to dig and which to ignore >when there is a mixed signal<. I get a lot of reads with mixed tone ID's, some in the silver range, some in lower ranges, especially when the high range numbers show as non-ferrous.
It's rare that one gets a "clean" signal in our (generally) iron-contaminated sites which have also been heavily hunted over the years. I'd like to learn better how to not kill so much of my outing time chasing haloes and weirdly shaped non- precious scrap, i.e. to learn any cues as to which mixed signals are worthwhile for digging. There is still good stuff out here, but much of it is masked by competing signals. I try to make the most of the discrimination settings and audio available on the Manticore, and wonder if anyone has made an actual audio recording of various signals and what was producing them?
I took this hobby up after retirement, some 7-8 years ago, with breaks for surgeries and Covid in that time. I enjoy my outings, but detecting is just one of many interests and time commitments I still have. If anyone can help with this, thanks in advance. I'm putting in the time I can to getting more skilled on my own, in any case- but such an audio resource sure wouldn't hurt.
