"UNDER THE IRON CARPET"
"UNDER THE IRON CARPET"
THIS IS ABOUT TESTING THE ABILITY OF THE DETECTOR AND THE COIL TO DETECT A TARGET SMALL 16MM COIN UNDER A LARGE NUMBER OF NAILS... AND TO FIND OUT WHICH DETECTOR AND WHICH COIL CAN HANDLE THIS TEST...
AS YOU CAN SEE.. THIS TEST IS VERY DEMANDING TO USE THE DETECTOR AS WELL AS THE COIL.
AS THE FIRST DETECTOR IN THIS TESTING, I USED TESORO MOJAVE AND THREE COILS: 7" CC COIL, 6" CC COIL, AND 4" CC COIL..
THE BEST RESULTS ARE PROVIDED BY A 6" COIL AND THAT'S WHY I RECORDED AND PUBLISHED THIS TEST..
TESORO MOJAVE-6" CC COIL..

I WILL GRADUALLY TEST OTHER DETECTORS... AND I WILL CONTINUALLY PUBLISH COILS AND TESTS...

Re: "UNDER THE IRON CARPET"
Very interesting how it seemed to hit when slowing swing speed. That may show the separation of a small concentric in iron. Be interesting if a DD of same size on that same machine would hit it too. Lots of pops, cracks, and false hits in a busy site full of iron and nails. Thanks for sharing.

Blackflag....since I have a 6x8" DD SEF coil on Mojave, I will also do such a comparison of coils on the iron carpet test...

Ahhhhhh. The KEY to future success!
I cannot tell if the unit is falsing more ....with a slower coil sweepspeed.............or.............the unit is genuinely detecting the coin.

Re: "UNDER THE IRON CARPET"
A 2d hunt with nails and coins, a concentric is best. Monte's nail board test the concentric coils kill it.
On 3d tests, dd coils does better detecting down the center of the coil.
So overall I would say an area with lots of iron, hunt it with a 6" concentric and a smaller dd coil.

Re: "UNDER THE IRON CARPET"
Greetings, Mr. Dankowski.. I repeated this test several times,,,, Mojave is able to eliminate nails well even with a slow movement of the coil,,, so it can partially break through the carpet of nails with a very slow movement of the coil... to the target... but it's not perfect by any means...
But at least I have an idea of what Tesoro Mojave can do in this test on its best 6" CC coil...
So a further comparison of other detectors on their best coils may show which detector will allow to achieve the best results in such a difficult separation situation...

This will be an informative series because 2D and 3D co-location are different. Concentric and DD coils are also different. Understanding and recognizing this, and also that of the site’s conditions is the key for me.

I have a site that is the perfect place for me to go and test out all of my machines and coil combinations. I can hunt it every day because it’s my father’s 175 acre farm that he bought from a friend of ours. It has been in constant habitat since 1850s. I’ve pounded on this place for 9 years very hard. It has nails, trash, and big iron from 170 years of being used. It’s very hard to get a good hit most everything left is blends of bent nails, lead heads, or iron masking something. I dig the big iron too. Got an iron wheel off of a narrow gauge steam engine a few years ago. Dug lots of relics and coins of all types. The best area is less than 1/2 an acre with the house and barn removed just grass . They even had school on this place for a while. I’ve ran over 20 different machines and piles of coils of every size and type on this place and they all seem to look into the ground just a little bit different. What I’ve learned is all sites are different and don’t write off a machine that doesn’t pass some test. Some of older machines seem to lock on to some stuff that might seem like a mixed iron tone on the newer machines. So ID and iron tone makes us walk away. When if the sites worthy maybe we should just dig. Machines I’ve used on this place all of the explorers, all of the sovereigns, musketeer ,CTX, Xterra pro, MXT, AT pro, G2, Patriot,f75,1236x2, red racer, racer2, Impact, vaquero, tejon and all with different coils. They all seem to hit on something a little different. If a machine can pull a keeper out of this site I consider it a good one, and yes some of the newer and older machines have passed this test. Sorry for long post. I just enjoy hunting and talking about very challenging situations.
